  • Question

  • hi there!

    I have troubles authenticating my site through msn live search.

    It asked me to create a xml file on my root directory of my site. Which I did, that is the file is at the adress:

    http://www.duodeharpes.com/LiveSearchSiteAuth.xml

    it asked me to fill this file with a html code, which I did, too. I did it through Iweb, so I just entered it as simple text.

    But when I ask to check, it says error.

    Did I do something wrong?

    Thanks for your help!

    Charlyox

    Yes,

    where <user> is the number string that was provided to you in the authorization code </user>.

    Look at you’re authentication file here: (url removed 21.07.2008)

    As an example, it should look like this: (url removed 21.07.2008)

    Do you see the difference?

    Delete all the coding and replace it with only:

    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <users>
      <user>7951F83684B24DBEB0F39BEE707B4DCC</user>

  • I have three sites which aren't authenticating. Not sure what the problem is. I've uploaded the XML files for each domain as prescribed.

    Is the validation tool working right now?

    Thanks.

  • If that´s hard for you, you can download the file here: (url removed 21.07.2008)

    You should be asked for a dowload when entering the website..

    Unzip the .rar file and upload it.

    It is all set up for you with the right autentication code.

  • Thanks but this doesn't help. I'm well aware of how to put the code into a file and that's exactly as my xml appears.

    Are there any Microsoft people that can help?

  • hmm... It’s very had to tell what’s wrong since I don’t even get access to the file in the browser, it seem like you’ve got one of the characters wrong.

    I copied the text to my own file and uploaded, and it worked fine.

    Can you by any chance zip (.rar or .zip)the file and upload it to the server, then I will download it and take a look.. Please let me know the path for the zipped file..

    Best regards.

    Hi  ok try one of the other sites as all have had same  problem

    <?xml version="1.0"?>

    <users>

        <user>5EBC875B1196411C8CE9EA4E436FD8A9</user>

    </users>

  • Ok, insert this meta tag for the website: mountainskiproperties.com

    <meta name="msvalidate.01" content="A3FE13D372C34C06B8AD5E149FE4F7AC" />

    and this meta tag for the website: y-ola.com

    <meta name="msvalidate.01" content="5EBC875B1196411C8CE9EA4E436FD8A9" />

    Make sure you change it, so the MSN will look for a meta tag, and not a .xml file (remove the website, then add it again)

    Let me know if this works!!

  • Hi

    Thanks any way for trying but neither worked.

    I suspect it may be as  our sites are international , that msn has a policy on this when   it come s to sites with text not in english

    Monday, July 21, 2008 12:56 PM
  • Nope, My website is all in Norwegian, and there is no problems here..

    If you want you can send me the LiveSearchSiteAuth.xml file to (adress removed), and I will have a look at it..

    I will delete this email within the next 20 min.. I will try to upload the file to my website and see what happens!!

    Hi,

    If the XML file doesn't work, try deleting your site from tools, resubmit it and use the Meta tags. There is an intermittent authentication error with foreign-hosted sites which we are working on the fix for the next release.

    Thanks,

  • Brent,

    For domestic, U.S. websites that don't work using Microsoft's sitemap protocal, setup, etc., what do you suggest?  Or is it just hit and miss with Microsoft right now?  Two weeks later and none ( out of 3) sitemaps work via XML.

    Thanks.

  • I am trying to authenticate three websites.  7 weeks later still doesn't work. I have root access. XML file is in place for all three sites.

    I'll try the meta tag example at the top and see if that works.

    FYI, I'm willing to send you the URLs and code I'm using but I won't post it in these public forums.

    Meta tag did not work:

    <meta name="msvalidate.01" content="UNIQUENUMBER HERE" />

    Ultimately, I want my sites listed in Live.  I have the sitemaps plugin for wordpress which says that I'm submitting my sitemap to  MSN every time I make a post or resubmit the sitemap.   No index by Live yet.

    I thought authentication would help. Just cant get it to work.
