Reinstalling MS Money 2003 on Windows 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've been using Money 2003 (think it's a Canadian version) since 2003 on a Windows XP computer - the hard drive has crashed on it and I've purchased a new PC with Windows 7 on it. I have the original Money 2003 install CD, and my Money data file was backed up (thankfully!). I've read online here that you can run Money 2003 on Windows 7 - just wondering if there are any tips for the install or anything else I need to know?

Do not put your data files (*.mny and *.mbf) into your ProgramFiles folder. Instead put them into your Documents folder, or other place you have full access to. You should not have to use compatiblity settings in Windows.

Then right-click the Setup on the install disk, and choose RunAsAdminstrator. That may not be needed,  but it should not hurt.

When you get into Money, change the backup file location to your Documents folder. The address that is in the file now probably does not exist on the new computer.

    Congratulations on your backup strategy.
