Configuring second drive as primary backup device RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have 2 physical internal IDE drives(C & D) and only use the latter for backing up photos and other items.  I recently purchased OneCare and cannot figure out how to use drive D to back only drive C contents.  In the wizard it is only giving me three options:

    Network Drive

    External HDD or thumb drive

    DVD burner

I cannot seem to point it at my second HDD sadly, which is the primary reason for having it.  Anyone know how?

This would be majorly dissapointing if this doesn't work.

    Thanks!

  • At the top of this forum topic is a post that explains how to configure backup to use your second internal drive as a destination by creating a Network Share on that drive, setting permissions, and then pointing Centralized backup to that location. It isn't natively supported by OneCare and the explanation is for a workaround.

  • The process is similar for XP Home. See this link for how to create the Shared folder:

    http://ecross.mvps.org/howto/share.htm

This article explains how to configure the permissions:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943909

Then configure OneCare centralized backup from a Hub PC in a Circle (even if your Circle is only a single PC).

To make a PC your hub computer, follow these steps:

    1. Open OneCare.
    2. Click Manage Your OneCare Circle.
    3. Click Make this PC a hub PC.
    4. Enter the Windows Live ID that you used to install OneCare, and then click Sign in.

    Create a backup plan:
