Office 2003 can't validate after 2 years of validation RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I've had and validated many times my Office 2003 (over two years).....now, today it will not validate to make a download. It says microsoft has blocked my "key". What has happened to change something on my computer. It has not been in the shop but last week acted strangely after a MS regular update. I've been out of town and can just now check on this.

I'm actually getting very aggravated that I have to re validate every time I try to download something...you'd think you would only have to do it one time.

Any help would be much appreciated.

  • Chermc,

Recently I have seen several posts from people who have become victims. Customers can run either an Office Suite and/or Operating system for months even a couple years then suddenly they find out they aren't running a genuine copy. This is attributed to many keys being updated to Microsoft Servers as being non-genuine. First, I want you to run a diagnostic test in order for us to analyze the results. If you are a victim, I will provide information for you to file a piracy report. Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) is here to help and protect YOU our valued customer. It is important for more people like you to report a piracy case who have become a victim.

I understand the inconvenience you are currently experiencing and would like to provide you with some self-help options we have made available for our customers to address the issue you are currently experiencing. Please follow the steps outlined below as it could either resolve your issue or, if need be, provide us with additional information to determine the cause of this issue.

    1. Ensure you log onto the computer experiencing the issue with “Administrator” rights.
    2. Next we would like to confirm that you are running the most current version of the Genuine Advantage control on your computer. In order to do this please follow the below link and choose the “Validate Office” option.

    http://www.microsoft.com/genuine

If the above steps did not resolve your issue lets continue with the steps below.

I would like to provide some of the self-help options we have made available for our customers to address these issues. If you could please follow the steps outlined below the diagnostics Web Site will attempt to resolve the validation errors you are experiencing with Office.
    http://www.microsoft.com/Genuine/diag/RunDiags.aspx?displayLang=en

Next follow the on-screen prompts to resolve the issue if any of the checks at the above site fail. You can do this by choosing the “Resolve Now” button if it appears. If, after attempting to resolve the issue as per the instructions on the above site fails, please refer to the link below and run the MGA Diagnostics tool:

    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012

You will be prompted to either “Run” or “Save” the tool. Choose to “Run” the tool and follow the on-screen prompts. You will receive an “Internet Explorer-Security Warning” dialog box for the “Windows Genuine Advantage Diagnostic Tool”; you must choose to “Run” this tool when prompted.

Once you are presented with the Diagnostics tool choose “Continue” to run the diagnostic report. If the “RESOLVE” button is available after running the diagnostics, please click “RESOLVE” to allow the diagnostic tool to attempt a repair.

    1. After running the MGA Diagnostic tool, click on the “Windows” tab and then click on “Copy”.
    2. Please return to this post and “Paste” the results here for additional review.

If the issue still has not been resolved could you please provide us with the following information?

    Thank you

  • I'm sorry this got sent twice ..............anyway, I'm still not finding any answer to my problem unless I'm overlooking it. For a company that makes software, seems like there could be a more intuitive way to get replies to problems. I have no idea what to do to get my OFFICE 2003 validated again....OR why it suddenly quit being accepted. This is totally unacceptable to me that I have to revalidate every time I want to download some little helper app after I already validated my OS and my OFFICE program. I've been a devoted PC user using MS products without too many complaints but this is ridiculous. I have things to do and can't keep trying to get this fixed. I'm going out of town again soon and away from this computer. Who knows what will happen to my laptop since i have't re-validated it lately.

Thank you for posting your diagnostic information and posting on the thread. Diagnostic results help our team find resolutions. I have extracted a portion of your diagnostic results to review with you.

I am sorry to hear about the problem your currently experiencing. I can see right away what the issue is with Office and why it is not passing validation.  Unfortunately, the product key used to install Office Professional Edition is a Volume License Key (VLK) that has been blocked per the request of the legal VLK holder.  As a rule, VL editions of either an Operating System and/or Office should not be sold to individual consumers. Businesses, schools and governments normally use VL editions for flexibility in installing many computers. Also, Volume Licenses for Windows XP and version of MS Office are Upgrade licenses ONLY and cannot be used as the original or base license for a new computer.
This is why you were seeing the "Software Counterfeiting" messages on your computer, because the current installation of Office XP Pro is an unauthorized installation. You will need to uninstall Office so no other problems may occur because it is non-genuine.

As a customer there are options available to you for a resolution.  First, if this comes as a total surprise to you, please go back to where you purchased Office and let them know it is a counterfeit copy and demand they immediately reimburse you and/or provide a Genuine Copy which was originally paid for. Print a copy of the diagnostic report so you may show them proof for the 114 Blocked VLK statuses.  In any case, please uninstall the non-genuine installation of Office to alleviate any complications which may arise from the non-genuine status of your Office.  Second, if you purchased this copy of Office from a reseller or retailer, you are a victim and should report this piracy to Microsoft. Microsoft legal will follow up on all leads provided. Reporting piracy to Microsoft will help alleviate others in becoming victims such as yourself. You may be eligible for a complimentary replacement copy if you were sold a high quality counterfeit copy of Office.  For details on the ways to “Get Genuine”, see the web page that outlined your validation failure details or http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/. It will provide all of the possible steps which you can take.
Good news your Windows installation did pass validation and is genuine, so that's great news. Again I am sorry to hear about your situation. In turn I hope the information will help you with getting a resolution. Please don't hesitate re-posting if you need further assistance.

  • At least you aren't telling me to uninstall my OS and it passed muster. I must say, I can't still figure out why it took MS over two years to come up with this since I've downloaded lots of little improvements for my Office Pro suite. I have been totally surprised by this whole issue and have taken up for the validation process and MS with other people I know.....no longer.

I no longer have the name of the company without going through to hunt for tax related receipts which would be next to impossible for me to do. I see no reason to uninstall as I just won't get any more downloads for my OFFICE Pro programs........But I will never buy more of these programs after this and will investigate how I might use other programs without this validation issue. If I did re-purchase, I wouldn't even get all the programs I now have with my previous purchase according to what I read under options.

One thing I won't do is buy the product again after I already paid for it and it passed for two years all your validation. I hate to grumble since you are only doing your job there at MS but I will be reading reviews for other software in the future as I just can't do what the "options" are that are available to me.

Pass along my response to MS (if they care) but I doubt that I will buy more products if this is not resolved. Too much of my time is involved now....please send a response if you can "fix" this problem.

  • Chermc,

I am sorry you feel this way. We are happy to help.  As you I too am a customer and try putting myself in your spot while providing customer service as I would expect to receive.  Please understand that in most cases, customers have no idea their copies of Windows and/or MS Office Suites were not legitimately provided.   This is because some resellers try to cut costs by providing unauthorized copies, but still charge the customer for a copy of Windows and MS Office Suite.  This may not have happened in your case, but it does happen frequently.  Also, we appreciate your concern that you’ve been using your copy of Windows for a long time – people often wonder, how is it that all of a sudden my copy turns out to be counterfeit.  This is because Microsoft is continually investigating piracy reports, and identifying keys that are being used improperly.  It is possible for a key to be used for several years, as in your case, but is then found to be a source of counterfeit, and therefore blocked from validating.

We do not mean to accuse you of any wrong-doing, and of course, there is always the possibility that the diagnosis is incorrect.  If that is the case, then we want to get this problem fixed as quickly as possible.

May I suggest a couple of links to follow this up?

    1. To further diagnose your system and look for a fix, please visit this site:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/selfhelp/support.aspx
    2. To learn more about WGA, the piracy problem, what Microsoft is doing, and how you can help, please visit this site:  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/WhyValidate.aspx

Thank you very much for your inquiry.  I hope this will prove helpful.  Please let me know if this solves the problem, or if we can be of any further service.

  • No, Stephen....this won't solve my problem. If I've got a genuine copy of Office Pro 2003 that has been validated for over two years, MS should go ahead with this instance and keep letting me update. They have come out with a new program (2007) now and I see no advantage to MS to lose a customer in the future for an old program that I've been using for two years and that I bought legally and in good faith. The diagnosis says it is valid....but you say it's a "group type key" ..............so why can't I be one of the "group"?

I read through all the other links which mostly was referring to the OS and I have no problem there. Heaven forbid it quit on me next time....then what will I do, sue Dell?

Unless you have a way for me to become validated with my current programs, I see no other need to discuss it further. Thank you for your time............as I said I'll have to start researching alternatives for the future.

  • Chermc,

Yes your operating system is valid as specificied with your diagnostic report results. There are many mitigating circumstances as why and how your version of Office Suite has now been labled as blocked VLK. Sometimes this occurs with both the operating system and office suite should you take in the system to a repair location.  This doen't seem to be your situation.  The key which was on your CD was blocked. Thus all keys identified by Microsoft are blocked and can't be authenticated. Again if you like please follow the guidance in previous post you may be eligible for a free copy of Office. Customers who submit piracy reports help themselves as well as countless others throughout the world by thwarting pirates and/or companies who attempt to sell copies as originals.  Bottom line is it appears you were sold a non-genuine copy of Office a couple years ago and the key you were issued belongs to another company.  We are only trying to assist our valued customers such as yourself.  Hope this information has shed more light on the situation and shared more information on the process as how to possibly aquire a free copy of Office.

  • I found my receipt for the software and tried to contact them...  usasurplussoftware.com in Miami. The email bounced. Looking through your validation and replacement/ resolution pages, I don't think my disk has a hologram tip to tip but looks like the second photo. I guess I'll just give up as I wanted ALL thise programs and not just your "standard office".....I also don't want the Office 2007 as all I hear is bad problems from people who have it. I'll have to wait until the kinks are worked out or go to another company for a suitable alternative. I just wanted my own 2003 program key cleared.  Too bad but I'll close out this topic now since you can't find any way to do that.

    Thank you

     Thank you
