Backing UP to an external SCSI FreeAgent Go disk RRS feed

  • Question

  • My WHS has four IDE disks in it - three are older 160GB seagate disks and the fourth is a 80GB Maxtor ATA133 which is the SYS disk.  I am adding a 500GB Seagate FreeAgent Go SCSI outboard disk.  Of course the options are to set it up as another pool drive in the JBOD array or - my preference, use it as a mirror for the data disks that are the internals.  In this way, I would have a pluggable, removable back-up drive with the ability to completely restore anything should anything happen to the internal array.

I have seen nothing at all that suggests any how-to do this, but it sure seems like this would be a highly desirable configuration.

Any ideas? Comments?  Did I miss something?  (In my first 60 days with WHS).

  • You can use your external disk as a server backup drive. You'll find more information about this in the console help file, under Computers & Backup/Home server Backup. Attempting to back up the actual storage pool disks is unsupported.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
