Windows 7 (64bit) family edition activation and updates failed (error 0x80072EE2) even after many tries of "Fix it" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

It has been a long time already (at least one year or two) that my laptop faces update failures that began with Microsoft Security Essential. No special reason, then the problem affected Windows Update more generally. But I succeed hardly in keeping up to date. I have never notice the Microsoft Genuine that popped up in the bottom right corner of the system window. My version of windows is said to be activated but I don't understand why there would be any problem with my version of windows... I have bought this laptop in a respectable website (priceminister.com) so I do believe that my version is a genuine one...

I tried many "Fix it" solutions, whether for Windows Update, Windows Activation, and many other but nothing works. I have never removed/changed/installed another OS on this laptop. So I would be very happy to be helped in finding a solution to this 0x80072EE2 error. Please find a diagnostic report in the following code block.

Do not hesitate to ask me for further informations and thank you so much in advance for helping me.

    Eric.

Please attempt validation using Internet Explorer at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate - it should pass.

If not, please post a new MGADiag report.

  • Hi and thanks for your support,

Unfortunately it does not work neither. I have also tried to contact Microsoft Support in France for this issue

and unfortunately my Windows7 label is unreadable (What a clever idea to paste it at the back of the laptop)...

I chatted with Acer to ask if they were able to give me this windows product key, but they told me that they

were not having such a database.

So I'm done for this. Having moved from France to Thailand all papers justifying that I have bought my laptop

properly are still in France. So I think I won't go further and buy a new laptop. It's less than to buy a new OS

    alone for a old laptop.

  • Before spending out, try this...

    Recreate the Licensing Store

Go to Start > All Programs > Accessories

Right-Click on Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator - accept the UAC prompt

Run the following commands in the Command Prompt window, using the Enter key at the end of each

    net stop sppsvc

(wait until the service has stopped before entering the following lines)

    CD %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

    REN tokens.dat tokens.bar

    net start sppsvc

    slui.exe

After a couple of seconds the Windows Activation dialog will appear.

You may be asked to re-activate and/or re-enter your product key, or Activation may occur automatically.

If you are asked for your Key, use the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case

Reboot and Post back with a new MGADiag report.

(Note: the Line 'CD %win......\SoftwareProtectionPlatform' is all on one line - it may be broken in the Forum listing)
