Synchronising two laptops RRS feed

  • Question

  • I wanted to be sure about this before I start - there's a lot of data involved and I am new to Sync Toy (which seems the ideal solution).

I have two laptops whose user files I want to keep in sync, using a USB HDD. So whenever either is connected it will sync to the same folders on the USB HDD. I will want to control the timing of the sync rather than having it automatic, if possible.

At separate times (never at the same time as of course the USB HDD can only be connected to one of the PCs) I'll want to sync Laptop 1 <> USB HDD folder and Laptop 2 to the same USB HDD folder. That way the folders on the USB HDD also act as backup.

I currently do this very neatly with Briefcases but am abandoning that method because:

    1. Opening a Briefcase with, say, 20,000 files can be glacially slow

    2. MS are dropping Briefcases in future versions of Windows

Thanks in advance for your help

PS I have successfully installed Sync Toy for Windows 7 Professional 64bit
