i own a dell inspiron 640m bought in 2006.the system was configured with windows xp home edition.the laptop was gifted to me by someone in the us.the original installation cd for windows xp home was lost recently.since my product was licenced, i have the original proof of licence and the product key.now i have the following questions, 1. can i install windows xp home from a friend's cd and use my genuine licence-proof/product-key to re-register for the updates and other benefits like before? 2. if this is not possible,what are the alternatives?
