  • Question

  • "Something went wrong and we can't sign you in at the moment. Please try again later.

The Microsoft account login server has detected too many repeated authentication attempts. Please wait a moment and try again."

Been trying for about 5 days..., worked for a few yrs before approx. 5 days ago. Resetting cookies/history/cache etc not cure it.

  • This is a known problem that has been affecting many users for about a week. Others might be affected, but we don't hear from them, because they cannot signin.

Some people (like me) report success using Edge on Windows 10, especially if they sign into the computer with a Microsoft account. Some people are convinced the problem is corrupt Microsoft account credentials in the user profile on the pc. The fix would be to close all Microsoft apps (including Skype, OneDrive, etc), then remove all Microsoft credentials in Control Panel\User Accounts\Credential Manager, then clear browser cache and reboot.

  • Sandra Aldana, forums Program Manager @Microsoft, reports (in Facebook, TechNetWikiNinja group) that they are working on the issue, and will announce what they know, suggest workarounds, estimate time to fix, etc.
