MCTS Certification still relevant? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Are the 70-511 (.Net 4 Windows Applications), 70-513 (WCF), 70-516 (Data Access) exams still relevant? Or have they been replaced?

So I am considering studying for the MCTS and then MCPD (70-518) certification. 70-518 looks especially useful for learning software development for WinForms incl OOP, LINQ, EF, WPF, etc.

MCSD certification does not seem to cover these.

    Thanks!

Answers

  • Hi, obrienkev.

The MCTS and MCPD certifications are still relevant and the best part is they do not require recertification like the newer MCSD certifications.

However, many of these exams are retiring in June or July. You can see the schedule for exam retirement here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/retired-certification-exams.aspx

Note that the titles will not be retired; only the exams will be retired. The certifications will remain valid for a few more years before they become marked as Legacy.

    Good luck!

    Best wishes, Davin Mickelson
