VPN RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I would like to know if a VPN connection is required to use Office
Communicator 2007 R2 outside the corporate network (specifically the fat
client, not Office Communicator Web Access!).

On many MS pages I've read that it is not required, one of my providers says
    the contrary.

    Thanks in advance,

    Francois Kreutz

  • Francois,

A VPN connection is not required if you utilize an access edge server to allow outside connectivity.  This server is specifically designed to allow outside access for your MOC clients and also provides the foundation for federation with other companies and public IM connectivity.  Here's a link to an article that may help:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd425196(office.13).aspx

    Hope this helps!
