Managing client form customizations on a 3rd party CRM 2011 application RRS feed

  • We are using a 3rd party product developed over Dynamics CRM 2011. The vendor provides regular solution updates to their custom forms. As the client, we are wanting to add our own fields / forms to the environment while still being able to apply the regular updates from the vendor. We need these fields to be available in views and workflows (processes).

    We were exploring adding the new fields to the current entity (Opportunity) and an equivalent set of fields to a child entity (child of Opportunity). The users would populate the fields on the child entity and we would trigger some method of copying the data to the fields on the parent record (Opportunity) on Save.

    The key points are to be able to apply the vendor updates without losing the field/form setup, or with an easy method of re-applying our form enhancements.

    Any suggestions on how to handle this?
