Setup WHS Network??? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've never had a server in my house before so I'm new to this stuff.  My question is, what would be the best way for my three wireless computers, two running Vista and one running XP Home, including my other devices like my PS3, PS2, etc. to connect to my WHS?  Here is what I've been thinking:

Wifi Devices --> Wifi Router --> WHS --> Cable Modem ...

    OR

Wifi Devices + WHS (ethernet) --> Wifi Router --> Cable Modem ...

So, which would be better?  Sorry, but it's just that I'm new to this stuff, but I have experience with PC and networking, so you can be technical about it if you want.  I would like to have it setup so that I can stream media like internet radio stations to all my wireless devices.

    Thanks for help!

Option 2.  There is no reason at all to have your server directly connected to the internet.  Keep all of your devices behind your router (firewall).  Besides, in order to set up option 1, you would need 2 NICs in the server and have to change the way WHS handles network traffic (which would be a big headache :)  ) by logging into the server desktop, which is unsupported.
