MPP freezes in team viewer

Question
-
Hi,
I have a project that contains 12 tasks and has about 80 - 100 generic and non-generic resources in the project team.
When I try to open team viewer and scroll down, MPP freezes when I'm about halfway the resource list. The same happens when I try to filter the list. When MPP freezes I am also not able to open any project in Project Center. The webpage keeps loading until I kill the MPP process, after which the project in PWA opens immediately.
I have no problems with other similar projects.
I'm using MPP 2010 and Project Server 2010 with the latest CU's installed. I couldn't find any error messages in the ULS or in the windows application event log on the client.
Does anybody have an idea what the issue might be?
Thanks,
Quint.

Try saving to XML and then coverting back to mpp. This will force a binary rebuild.

Does the same project exhibit the same behavior on other systems when opened by other users?

Yes, it does.
And we have also found another project that has similar issue. Sometimes it freezes in team viewer, but for that project the Gantt Chart does not show either. In the task usage view the table with all tasks is displayed, but the table with the timeline and all hours of work does not display. That part of the screen remains blank. I have also seen MPP crash when this project was open on at least two different laptops.
During one of those crashes, which happened on my own computer I got an error message saying that there was not enoug memory to complete the operation. When I checked only 3,8 GB of the available 8 GB was in use.
We have discovered that saving a copy of the project seems to solve the problems. We have to do some further testing, but this may be a workaround.
I would still like to know what is causing the issues to prevent it in the future.

I have solved the issues with the Gantt, Task Usage and Team Planner views that were not displaying in one of the projects. Somehow the views got corrupted and resetting them to their defaults fixed this issue.
The original problem that MPP freezes in the team planner view for one of the projects still exists though. Resetting that view to the default did not have any effect.
Any ideas?

Quint

I have found some more information about this issue. We had the same problem for other projects and I found out what causes the bug.
The team planner view cannot display task assignments that have a different start or end date than the task. The assignment can get different start or end dates by specifying a custom distribution of hours for a resource in the Task Usage view:
Solution
Make sure that the start and finish dates of the assignments are exactly equal to the start and finish dates of the task.
This can be done by going to the Task Usage view and entering 0 hours for the assignment in the days that no work will be done. MS Project will automatically remove the 0 hours from the last day with work to the finish date of the task. To prevent MS Project from removing the hours and automatically update the finish date of the assignment, add a small amount of hours to the last day of the task assignment (0,02 hrs is the smallest possible amount).
The same process can be used to fix the start date of the assignment.
This is clearly a bug in MPP and I will encourage the client to raise this issue with MS.

The client has contacted MS and this is a bug that will be fixed by SP1.Wednesday, June 29, 2011 10:28 AM
