Acer sent for repairs now I can't activate windows - Error Code 0xC004F063 The software liceinsing service reported that the computer bios is missing a required license. RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good afternoon I'm trying to get my copy of windows activated. Here's the deal. I purchased this laptop an acer brand new. I recently sent it in for repairs. From the looks of the repair bill from acer they replaced the  mainboard, keyboard and other components. Shortly there after I kept receiving messages to activate my copy of windows.

So I don't fret because my COA is underneath my computer and I can just enter the windows product key. Guess what I guess they would save money on printing costs. They didn't laminate the COA. I have 2 other acer laptops and it's the same no laminated COA. So as you can Imagine it has worn away....

So through some detective work I managed to recover my product key. Now when I try to enter the product key on the activation dialog. Now I get an error code

0xC004F063 - The software liceinsing service reported that the computer bios is missing a required license.

So My question is How can I get this fixed. Thanks,

  • The Key you found (presumably by using a Keyfinder utility such a Magical Jellybean or Balarc Advisor) was the same Key that was already installed - the OEM_SLP Home Premium Key for a Packard Bell/Acer system.

The SLIC table in teh BIOS is for Vista, rather than for Win7 - and it's this that is causing your problem

Under normal circumstances teh fix would be simple - merely change the key to the COA key on your sticker. However, you say that this has become unreadable.

You need to contact Acer and see if they have an updated BIOS for your motherboard that has the correct bits for Win 7, or if they can provide you with a Win 7 COA Key

The only other thing you could do would be to purchase a new copy of Windows for your machine.
