    I have downloaded the trial version of WHS with power pack 3 I have Purchased WHS power pack 1 Can I use the trial version to install with the key recieved with the purchased version? Just trying to avoid all the updates

    FAQ: How do I upgrade from the evaluation/trial to a full version of WHS?

    I haven't installed the trial yet I guess my question is will I have to go through the update process  of PP2 and PP3 anyway if I do install the trial first or should I just bite the bullit and start with PP1

    I suspect you haven't read the FAQ I linked to. As it tells you, it's not possible to use a product key from a purchased version to license the trial version. You must reinstall with the purchased software, and when you do so, you'll have to install Power Pack 2 and 3 on your purchased version. Not that this is a problem, if you leave automatic updates turned on.

    And Power Packs 1 through 3 are rolled up in the trial software you downloaded, so you won't need to install them.
