Re-using Windows XP Professional product key. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've had to rebuild my computer and that involves replacing the hard drive.

When I bought my pc it came pre-installed with Windows XP Professional and all that came with the computer was a blue sticker on the case with the product key. If possible, where can I get the CDs or download to re-install my operating system?

    Thanks in advance.

If the rebuild also involved changing the motherboard, then you’re out of luck, as that would have invalidated the Windows License.

There are no legal public downloads of any version of XP – and it’s not recommended to try downloading torrents, as they are likely to be contaminated with malware.

You can try your manufacturer – they may still have copies of the Recovery disk set for your PC available for purchase (usually less than $50) – or perhaps restoredisks.com
