Formatting of a transcript file RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a powershell file, which runs fine, and using the start and stop transcript commands, gives me a text file.

When I run it the formatting is great, but when my colleague runs it, it's like it's running on in 1 line.

The script is in there, and 2 examples of the log files - christine's one formatting is ok, jons isn't - any advice would be very gratefully received as I don't quite understand what the issue could be.

  • Both files look fine to me.  What program are you using to view them?

  • The two systems have different end of line settings.  One is using Unix eol and the othere Windows eol.

  • notepad - and they look different on my machine. and on jons.

Yet if I copy and paste the strangely looking formatted, it comes out ok.

  • They are 2 different versions of windows, but that's about it. I believe.

  • Jon's file is loaded with nulls.  His system has issues.

  • Are the 2 files identical? it appears that Jon's is shorter. it certainly is smaller in kb.

  • His system or profile is corrupt.  It is not generating text files correctly.
