Merge Forms RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is there a good reason to merge old forms into the new forms?

An on-premise CRM 2011 environment is being upgrade to CRM 2016. The old forms have been highly configured and the system owner wants to keep the old form layout.

Is there a compelling reason to merge the old Information forms into the new main forms?

For example does the CRM for Tablet and CRM for Mobile apps work off the main form only?

    Any other reasons?

  • Hi,

I would recommend you redo the form customization on the new form and the recommendation is also to use the new form layout if possible since you will get a similar look and feel throughout the system. One of the reasons you want to migrate to the new forms is that MS has said that the old forms will stop working "soon" since the introduction of CRM 2013 RTM. I wouldn't recommend that you merge the form or upgrage the old form is the available option IIRC since that, well, doesn't work so well...

  • Thanks Rickard for your advice, it appears I do need to do this.

I was going to use the Merge Forms button, are advising not to use this button? Otherwise I would have to manually add the tabs/sections/fields and configure all settings. That's quite a big job with out the Merge Forms feature.

  • Hi,

I would not recommend that you use the merge function, I haven't had a good result using that function and in the end spent at least as much time to get things the way I want them (or the customer wants them) than I would have spent changing the new form. I would also try to have a new look at the form and if possible try to align with Microsofts new design idea (important info top left, related info top right activity pane top center, more info below).
