Advice on which certificate to take RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
I'm looking for advice on which exams/route I should take.  I would like to get a certificate using VB.Net to product windows applications.  I have been looking at all the different certs and its a little confusing.  I found exam 70-306 (Developing Windows-based Applications with Visual Basic.Net but I think I read that this exam was being retired in March. Is there a different exam replacing it or is that it done for good.

    Thanks

  • Depends on what you are doing day to day. If you are doing 2.0 do the 2.0 one for example.

You can always do both if you choose, it would be a three exam set giving you the MCTS in both 2.0 and 3.5

Just be aware that the 3.5 Windows exam is not yet live, it should be live in Feb sometime.

Start with 70-536 and then decide which one you want to do after that as both of them require that exam anyways.

  • The exam you would like to do is yes being retired at the end of March 2009.

It has been replaced by the MCTS/MCPD which is much the same except targets 2.0 and 3.5 Frameworks.

You can do exam 70-536 and either exam 70-526 (Windows development on 2.0) or 70-505 (Windows development on 3.5).

Both exams are offered in either C# or VB.NET, you just choose at the start of your exam rather than having a specific exam number for each exam.

    Hope this helps
