Moving Microsoft Money 2000 from a windows 98 PC to a (windows 7) laptop RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had Microsoft Money 2000 on an old windows 98 PC (kept the old thing going just for that reason). It has now died on me, so transfered all the data onto a pen, plugged that into my windows 7 laptop - and the Money program will not start.

The Ms Works Suite 2000 disks (of which Ms Money 2000 is a part) won't run on Windows 7.

I have 12 years of 'money' data which I would like to continue with on Money or any other program that will use the old data.

  • Your Money 2000 is not in English, is it? If it is, then you might be able to use the appropriate version of Money 2005.

Otherwise, can you make the Windows 7 the 32-bit version? I expect that could install your version. Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC may be the answer. Install your Money 2000 in to the virtual XP environment. It will be slower, but it shoud work, I think. Let us know what you learn.

  • Thanks.

Getting to: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx/  is easy, entering the 7 version and language is too, but then how do I start the download?

  • Hi Dominic,

the link you suggested doesn't display either.  I've tried downloading a couple of the newer versions of Money but they conflict with the data of the old 2000 version.  I've given up.

    Thanks for trying though!
