Need advice for a new certification from a list RRS feed

  • Question

  • I need a little help deciding on which exam to take as it is a requirement at my current employer to complete one of the following exams by the end of the year.

I am a student with some networking experience and web hosting experience and have about 4 years experience overall in the IT field. I am not too interested in a few of these exams but it seems the best route would be get to get some feedback as to which maybe the easiest to achieve with my experience and also to consider how much material is available to be able to study for a certain exam. I noticed some of these exams are very new and there is little to no direct material to study from, so it maybe best to avoid some of those exams.

Any input would be great, thanks ahead of time.

  • Hi,

if you do not have the requirements of an exam, then you can directly skip them by now (or you have to work on the requirements to getthe certification of the exam). This maybe removes all UPGRADE and PRO exams of your list.

Then go through the "Skills Measured" list of all exams. I would choose the exam that you know best (that is best if you just want to get the certification!).

Another option is also to choose the exam, that you need for your job most. My SQL Database Developer exam could be a good example: I never did to much with databases. Some easche SQL Statements but that was it. In my Job as Software Developer I had the feeling, that I really miss something important so I trained myself with multiple books and I think I spend almost all my spare time in front of the computer playing around with the topics of the books. And when I really felt comfortable I took the 70-433 exam.

The exam pages can be found with urls like:
    http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/exam.aspx?ID=70-518&locale=en-us

Just modify the ID= to match the given Exam ID.

I hope that helped a little,

    With kind regards,

    Konrad

  • Hi Hamid-

You can take 70-668 before 70-667.  Typically, the order isn't enforced (although sometimes, a specific order is beneficial based on experience and training).

  • Hi,

I would like to know if I can take Exam 70-668 before taking exam 70-667 for SharePoint 2010?  I have taken the course

10174A: Configuring and Administering Microsoft SharePoint 2010 for 70-667.

    Thanks,

  • Thanks a lot, currently I'm leaning towards the following:

Exam 70-642: TS: Windows Server 2008 Network Infrastructure, Configuring

Exam 70-652: Windows Server Virtualization, Configuring

Because I have some network experience and education the obvious choice would be 70-642 in my opinion, but I guess the biggest issue is that I am giving web development a shot and putting a lot of time and effort into that at the moment and I hate to flip flop between two different subjects.

The Virtualization exam seems pretty interesting though.

I guess it's just me being indecisive anyways thanks again.

  • FYI - 70-652 has been superseded by 70-659.  The 70-652 will be pulled out of production in December of this year.  I would advise you to go with 70-659 instead.
