  • Question

  • I guess my computer I bought used does not have a legit copy.  It worked fine with the pop up window telling me it was not genuine but now a couple months later, I cannot even sign in anymore.  At the sign in screen after start up, It asks me to resolve now or later and no matter what option i do, it momentarily begins to sign user account and then automatically restarts.  I'd like to buy a legit edition, can i just put in a new cd and reinstall windows without losing data and not have to worry about having a genuine copy or not again?

  • Hello Mucci,

WGA does not disable non-genuine XP, it only notifies.  If your XP is not launching, I think you XP is having a deeper issue then being Non-Genuine.

My recommedation would be to try booting XP into Safe Mode and then save your importent information off the computer. Once you do that, you can try installing XP or upgrading to Vista over the top of the current XP. That way if the files are erased, during the install, you have backups.

    Thank you,
    Darin MS
