Turn off OneCare from Command Prompt RRS feed

  • Question

  • How do I turn off Live OneCare and/or OneCare Firewall from Command Prompt.  I need to do during building an application.

  • You can't do that.

    Think about it for a moment. If *you* could use a command line switch to turn off OneCare, don't you think that malware would already be doing that?

  • I suppose if your process is running as Admin it should be able to do what you want to the computer.  If Malware has elevated privaledge than they should able to do that.

  • In theory, yes, any process running elevated should have admin access to the PC, but that still doesn't provide command prompt access to shut down the OneCare services. Personally, I would not want *any* process to have that kind of capability over the security on my PC.

  • The command NET STOP WINSS will stop the OLOC service. Will that suffice?

    here is the answer

     

    net stop winss

     

    put that in the run line

     

    net start winss

     

    turns it back on
