computer restarting by itself

  Before I reformat my hard drive I'm giving this a try. I have removed many programs and replaced Explorer with FireFox still my computer restarts by itself mostly when I start it for the first time of the day, then will freeze a few times and then continue for a long time. When it reboots itself I get error messages some like; this is a serious error and then I'm sent online to tell me this could be a hardware problem. Any suggestions?
