Preserving File Pairs When Moving To New Machine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm moving to a new machine and also upgrading from 2.0 to 2.1.  Is it possible to preserve my file pairs by copying over some configuration file?  Or do I have to go through the (somewhat tedious) business of recreating them once more as if from scratch?

  • I think maybe I found my own answer.  If I put this file:

    in the C:\Documents and Settings\[local user]\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\SyncToy\2.1

that should preserve the pairings.  Am I correct?

  • Hi IanRW,

Yes, that is the key file.

But normally, you do not need to worry about how to re-use your previous configurations. SyncToy 2.1 itself will do things to approach this for you. And it is not recommended to maniputlate SyncToyDirPairs.bin or any other SyncToy metadata files manually.
