"Your home server" and backups RRS feed

  • Question

  • 1)  Is there a way to backup the OS portion of WHS?  I would like someway of saving all of the settings I have made (registry hacks etc)

    2)  When backing up "your home server", how is that different than selecting shares to be duplicated?  For example, I have 4 drives in my system and three of them are "Storage Hard Drives", and the other is a "Server Backup Hard Drive".   Isn't the duplicated ABC folder being mirroed on the Server Backup Hard Drive, or is it being striped (for lack of a better term) across the "Storage Hard Drives"

    Thanks

So if I have all 4 internal drives as "storage" and I add a 100MB file to a duplicated share,  and Drive Extender duplicates that file once for me.

Does my actual storage space decreases by 200MB (approx), but my available storage shows it only decreased 100MB?

If so,  once my drives start getting full because of duplication, I get an "unhealthy" notice?

Drive Extender duplicates new files only at each full hour to reduce the system load. The current storage space decreases in your example by 200 MB, which is identical to the available storage (after duplication happened).
If the drives get full and there is no space for running duplication any more, you will get a warning.

No, there is no supported method.

Folder Duplication keeps 2 copies of each file on 2 different physical hard drives that are part of the storage pool.  Backups are used for off-site storage.
