Multiple CRM Instances on same DB Server RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a development environment of Microsoft CRM and want to add a second development environment. Is it possible to point both development Microsoft CRM instances to the same Microsoft SQL 2005 server? I notice that there is a MSCRM_CONFIG database and curious if that would be an issue?

Are there any special considerations to keep in mind if using 1 database server for 2 Microsoft CRM environments?

Thanks so much for your help

If u have a Enterprise edition you 'll create another organization for testing propuses in the same server by Deployment Manager.

  • Hi,

I'm curious to know why you would want to do this. Having two installations of MS CRM pointing to the same db is not the same as setting up two organizations. With two organizations on the same server you wouldn't need two installaitons.

You can have two installations of MS CRM pointing to the same SQL Server and same databases. In this case both installations would be identical. Making a change on once system would mean making a change on the other.

Or am I might be something?

  • I was working on the environment were it was one shared DB server. I would like to suggest you use different name for configuration DB because you will prevent some issues in the future. For example you will have MSCRM_CONFIG1 MSCRM_CONFIG2. It is a simple task to change it (one entry in registry on CRM Server).
