Backup Service Error RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am having a backup problem.  It started about a week ago.  All of the drives are healthy and I have not added or replace any drives.  The automatic backups will not finish and a manual backup will stop at 17%.  I have attempt to repair the server, and it states that the server is healthy, but when I attempt to clean up the backups, it stalls out at 18% and there is a backup error with connector.  I am performing all activities through the console on my computer.

Details:  I initially had Power Pack 1 Release Candidate installed.  I removed the release candidate, installed Power Pack 1 and then Power Pack 2.

Error messages: 1. Client Backup server failed at d:\wssg_src\whs_pp2\qhs\src\backup\util\diskfile.cpp(449)  2.Unexpected error 0x17 from ReadFile on D:\folders\{00008086-058D-4C89-AB57-A7F909A47AB4}\GlobalCluster.4096.dat: Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

Please run chkdsk /f /r on the client and if that does not resolve it, please run chkdsk on all the drives in the server according to the instructions in this post. A CRC error is indicative of a bad disk or a disk going bad (same thing). The system event log for the server should have entries pointing to a bad block if this is the server and it should indicate which disk is bad. Once you identify the drive, I would look to replace it.

    Thanks

  • I believe I have fixed the problem now, thanks to your suggestion.  I ran chkdsk on the D: drive, which is not my primary drive.  That is an additional 1 TB Seagate drive that I installed about 3 months ago.  It is a new drive and it was just added to give me more space, it has nothing on it currently.

Disappointing because it is a fairly new drive.
