Just ;purchased this laptop, 2nd-user. COA on the label is rejected by validation. Went though quite a few phone calls with MS and Samsung - no help. Can't get a reply from the company who sold me the laptop, other than to say that they have wiped the hard disk and installed and oem version of Win Xp Pro - and they say it should validate...
I do not know what to do next ?
Thanks

I have checked the Product Key and it is Valid and Genuine.
It has been activated once and I don't see any other possible problems with the key.

We can send a license however this would not be the normal way for this to be done .Can you please answer as to why your system asked for the registration to be confirmed ?We ask this as refurbished laptops are always registered under the Microsoft Refurbishment Membership scheme .Which is done by ourselves and not by the end user as the end user is not a member of the scheme .The License is for Vista - but the installation is of XP Pro.The installation is therefore non-genuine, and your vendor is probably a pirate.'Registration' is irrelevant - and is NOT done by a refurbisher anyhow. They are required to use a specific method of installing Windows to a machine, and affix the appropriate sticker - which must state 'refurbished'.The following link has an example of a refurbisher's COA sticker.Activation is what counts, and a Vista Key cannot activate an XP install. That activation is NOT done by the refurbisher, but by the end-user when they first start the machine and it installs the OS - this is to ensure that the user agrees to the Licensing terms and has the chance to refuse them and claim a refund .I would report the vendor to MS through their HowToTell pages (which seem to be broken at the moment!) - http://www.microsoft.com/howtotell/As to how to get genuine, you have two ways to go about it.1) demand the appropriate sticker from the vendor2) request a set of Vista recovery disks from SamsungThere is a third option - which is a little complex - of downloading a Vista SP1 installation set, and creating the boot disk from that, and installing that as a clean install.

AdrianFor what version and edition of Windows is the COA sticker valid?the vendor's story sounds fishy to me - please check the COA sticker against examples here...The installed license is an OEM_SLP Key which is not the type used by refurbishes.

There's some question in my mind as to how legitimate their operation is - their customer support certainly leaves a lot to be desired, and they seem to operate as a group of interconnected companies, with no telephone contact numbers...The laptop has updated itself to SP3, and now it's counting down a 30-day activation clock.
What should I do next ?
Thanks

Noel Paton | Nil Carborundum Illegitemi | CrashFixPC | The Three-toed SlothThat's all very helpful, thanks, and kind of confirms my fears.
The vendor is being totally silent - which makes me think that they've got something to hide...
I've emailed Samsung to see about a set of recovery disks - it'll mean reinstalling the applications software I've already installed (I guess) - but at least I'll end up with a usable machine.
I did try the MagicalJellybean keyfinder, which found a key, but then that key wouldn't validate either...
How would I go about 'Option 3' - just in case the Samsung route turns out to be a problem?
Thanks

BEWARE!!!!
1) please post a new MGADiag report - they CANNOT issue a new Key in such a fashion! (even MS cannot do that!)
2) Is the physical sticker coming? if not, then they are pirtates. pure and simple.

Allegedly, something is in the post to me (probably 3 scorpions in a Fed-ex box!) - I'll let you know what it is when it arrives.
Here's the MGADiag - don't know what it tells you ?

HI Darin
Many thanks for checking that for me.
Seems that, whatever else my supplier may be guilty of, Windows piracy isn't one of their crimes! <grin>
Thanks again
