Hello Reddemon,
I would like for you to try the following steps and do a manual download. :-)
Step 1: WGA Manual ActiveX Installation
Click the Start button, then Click Run
Type: iexplore http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=39204 then Click OK
You will be prompted to download “LegitCheckControl.cab”
Choose Open
Once this completes, a window will open showing two files. “LegitCheckControl.dll” and “LegitCheckControl.inf” Leave this window open for now.
Click the Start button, then Click Run
Type: system32, then Click OK
(If you are running Windows XP, you may need to click Show Files to allow access to this system directory.)
Drag the “LegitCheckControl.dll” file from the window that was open into the “system32” directory folder. If you are prompted to overwrite a file, choose Yes, to overwrite any existing file. (If you are running Vista, you may be prompted to provide administrator permission to complete the action. If so, Press Continue, and allow it.)
Click the Start button, then Click Run
Type “regsvr32 LegitCheckControl.dll”, and then click ‘OK’.
You should see a dialog saying “DllRegisterServer in LegitCheckControl.dll succeeded.”
After you finish the above steps please restart the computer and try to validate Vista. Here is the link:

Thank you Reddemon,

Hello Reddemon,
Thank you for posting with us today. Can you please try and use IE and let us know what happens. You shouldn't be experiencing any problems with Firefox. Are you running a firewall program or other program which may be stopping this?
Thank you,
Stephen

Thanks you for your reply Stephen,
I have AVG and Outpost firewall pro, and have disabled them (and windows defender) before downloading but the same problem happens again.
I have also tried IE to download (http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/default.aspx?displaylang=en&sguid=8e086e1c-3d2e-4896-b62f-92daecba52f0&control=install ) but it says I have to install activeX content, but no bar comes up. Then I tried to enable it in the options, by allowing ActiveX options which were previously disabled. That didn't work so I reset the options.
I don't know if it helps, but I recently recovered my computer.
I was wondering if there was any way to Validate online without downloading anything. Or at least being able to download the plugin files separate from the installer and place them manually.
Thanks.- Edited by Reddemon815 Thursday, June 11, 2009 11:08 PM
