Co-existence of WHS 2011 and WHS v1 in the same network RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have WHS V1 for 3 or 4 years now.  It is on an old P4 Dell PC - 500G internal drive and 1.5T external drive, 100/10 ethernet.  It is still running well, but I'm not planning to upgrade it to WHS 2011.  I have 6 PC at home and I can easily take a newer Core-based PC (64-bit) for WHS 2011.  I envision I'll have both WHS v1 and WHS 2011 in the network as long as that P4 PC is still running.  My questions are:

    1. Will there have conflicts for co-existence of both products in the same network?  My assumption is not.  I should just see two servers in the network and I can select which one I want to use.  Please correct me if my assumption is wrong.

    2. Is there a better way to use both of them in a domain, or through some add-on software to achieve this. so I don't need to distinguish which server I need to use.

    Thank you!

    1. Correct - I have used WHS1 and 2011RC on the same network without problem. I see no reason why RTM should be different.

    2. Not that I have heard of. WHS is not a Domain Controller.
