WHS 2011 and NAS working together?? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have Windows Home Server 2011 running at home as well as a Synology NAS (DS211+) and I am trying to figure out how I can maximise each to work together. WHS does allow me to use the NAS as additional storage (very annoying) but surely I can put both to good use together somehow? Right now I am leaving the NAS do nothing in favor of having WHS running the show.
Has anyone managed to find a good way to use these together?

  • How about using the NAS as a backup to your most valuable data? You could use something like SyncToy or SyncBack to do that.

  • Exactly what I do to backup the shares. Point them to the NAS using Syncback.

Also use an external drive to backup the server os and client backups.

    Both backups are automated.
