Firewall stops working RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am running OneCare on my notebook at home with no problems.  When my daughter came home for break from college, I installed OneCare on her notebook and it has worked fine for a couple months.  Now I can see the Red for her notebook on my circle, and her Firewall shows Red Urgent and off.  After doing the requested trouble shooting she gets the following:

Could not start the OneCare Firewall service on local computer.
Error 1068: The dependency service or group failed to start

As she is back in college and I have the CD, how can she uninstall & reload OneCare if this error indicated this action is necessary?

  • If a reinstall is needed, she can do this from http://onecare.live.com and activate/subscribe using the LiveID for your subscription.

However, the problem may be due to a conflict with other security software on the PC that is required by the college.

You may wish to contact support for help in troubleshooting this problem (well, have your daughter contact them - she may need your LiveID/password, though).

  • Thanks Steven fr the help.  Problem resolved when distribution disk expressed to college and installed after the uninstall was downloaded and run.  Who knows what goes on with the campus life!  Thanks again
