There was a recognition update today for profile. It targeted non forums applications like the galleries. If you go to your profile from forums, you shouldn't see the medals at the top but intstead your forums points because the query string params..for example: http://social.microsoft.com/profile/kristofera%20-%20huagati%20systems/?type=forum&referrer=http://social.microsoft.com/forums/en-us/reportabug/
If you take those away, say http://social.microsoft.com/profile/kristofera%20-%20huagati%20systems/ , you'll see the gallery recognition points you have, in this case none. In the next few months forums is planning to onboard to this new recognition system, migrating points over and translating all user actions into new achievements (think "Top Answerer Gold" for example).
So for now, you can ignore these, but in the next couple of months they will mean more to everyone. I have a lot of work to do to document what all this means and get it out there to the community in advance, something I'm currently working on.
More information about the recognition system is here: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/ff395928.aspx#_Recognition_System
