MCITP: Server Administrator. Exam 70-640, Exam 70-642, Exam 70-646 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I'm studying for my MCITP: Server Administrator exams.  My company can provide me Server 2008 to train on.  Should I use Server 2008 Enterprise, standard or data center?

I read in the forum that some people recommend Enterprise for the extra features but since this is not the enterprise exam why not just use standard since the other features wont be in the exam?

Also I could also use 2008 R2 but worried it will have too many new features and therefore confuse me.  My company started to deploy 2008 R2 but cannot see a MCITP for that so I thought MCITP: Server Administrator 2008 would be a good start.

  • If you check the Microsoft Learning website, it has the answers for you.  70-642 and 70-643 are the only ones that may have some questions/material dealing with HyperV

  • Server 2008 Standard will work fine for the study purposes.  That's what the study materials, and exams, are based on.  The study materials do not cover R2, so if you use R2, it won't make any real difference in what you're studying/learning.

  • Does anyone know if there are hyper-V questions in the above mentioned exams (70-640, Exam 70-642, Exam 70-646)??  I can download server 2008 with or without hyper v so just wanted to get an idea of which one to download. Thanks.

  • I disagree on using Standard server version. In prepairing for 640, work with AD CS and in particular an enterprise root CA is helpfull. That procludes the standard version. Download the enterprise WS 2k8 r2 and set up a Hyper-V farm on a WS loaded with RAM. You get 180 days of eveluation use (that's lots of time and lot's of SLMGR /reset calls)

    Worked fo me.
