how to include deadline in OLAP cubes? RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are trying to build an Excel report containing all the current tasks of all the projects. With that we want to include the 'Deadline' field (general field on task level), but as far as I know the OLAP cubes don't contain this field. Adding it via the Server Settings in Project Server is not an option because you can only add custom fields there.

Is there a way to include the Deadline field into the cube? I can't find out at the moment.

  • Hi Pieter,

Rather than using the cube, what about using the PWA_Reporting database? If the none of the default ODC files does not contain the deadline field, you could create your own ODC file or embed the SQL directly into Excel.

If you need this in an OLAP cube you may need to look at extending the default Project Server cube or creating a custom cube.

    Hope that helps

  • I am with Paul.  Perhaps you could describe the report you're trying to create and we could suggest an alternate route?

  • Thanks Andrew & Paul.

We try to create a pivot table in Excel, containing all the assignments on all the projects and grouped by user. The users can check their tasks in the PWA, but we also want the complete overview in Excel for team leaders, business unit managers etc... With every assignment we want to include the deadline (how much time is left before the desired date?) and the slack (how critical is the task?), because those are two important parameters to determine the priorities of the tasks per user. That's what we are trying to do. If you have any suggestions or better ways to do this, they are more than welcome :)

Paul, about your suggestion of using the PWA_Reporting database, is that the ProjectServer_Reporting database in Project Server 2010? Because I can't find any PWA_Reporting database (but I haven't checked that with our system administrator).

  • Hi Pieter,

    Thanks
