In CRM 2011 Are Managed Fields Not Editable? RRS feed

    Hi.  I am trying to edit a field that shows a state of 'Managed'.

    We just upgraded to CRM 2011 from CRM 4.0.

    Are fields that have a state of 'Managed' uneditable?

    The specific field that I am trying to edit is the Opportunity, Create By field.

    Hi Rick,

    Yes fields in CRM 2011 listed as Managed are Read-Only.  The Managed terminology is similar in CRM 2011 as System fields in CRM 4.0.

    Different Managed fields have different allowed levels of customisation - so you can rename the CreatedBy field or specify a different display name on the Opportunity Form, but you could not delete this field or change the type for example.

    Generally managed fields come from the Core CRM 2011 Application (i.e. the managed base system solution) or from add-on Solutions that are imported as Managed such that they cannot be copied or altered.

    Can I ask what are you trying to edit in that field. All the built in fields are managed. The only thing you can change in Created by field is searchable property to yes or no.

    You can change some of the properties of these managed field for e.g max lenth in text fields, required level in most of them. You can delete them if they are not system fields.

    Created By is a built in lookup field, you should not be changing it.
