Project Server 2010: Resources Assigned Incorrectly to Fixed Duration Tasks RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good evening,

In one of our work plans, we have a fixed duration task with a duration of 10 days.  When we assign a resource to the task, it assigns them for 1 day, not the expected 10 days.

What causes this?  Am I not understanding how fixed duration tasks work?  I would think the assigned resource would be assigned for 10 days, not 1...

    Thanks in advance!

    Bryan

  • Hi Bryan,

I have just tried this and the resource is assigned as anticipated - for 10 days 8 hours per day.

    - I created the task

    - changed the task to fixed duration ( non effort driven)

    - craeted a resource

    - double clicked the tasks to get the task inforamtion and assigned the resource with 100%

Does this happen to all your tasks?

  • Bryan --

How did you assign the resource to the task?  Did you use the Assign Resources dialog and then enter a Units value of 100%, for example?  Please give us more specifics about how you performed the assignment, as that would help us to trouble shoot your problem, and then we will try to help you. Let us know.

  • Sure:

    • I used the Assign Resource dialogue and the default Units value was 100%.
    • Only one resource was assigned.
    • The task is Fixed Duration
    • It isn't Effort Driven
    • It's not estimated duration
    • No deadline.
    • Constraint is ASAP
    • Earned value is % Complete
    • 1 Predecessor with a FS dependency
    • Auto-Scheduled

Let me know if you need anything else.

    Thanks!
