WHS 2011 Client (Windows 8) System Reserved Partition Shows Offline RRS feed

  • Question

  • My WHS 2011 Client is running Windows 8 - 64 bit.

Before upgrading to Windows 8.1 I did a manual WHS backup. I also created images of both Windows 8 partitions (System Reserved and C:) using Shadow Protect v4.1 boot CD.

After upgrading to Windows 8.1 I encountered a few problems and I decided to go back to Windows 8 by restoring the Shadow Protect images.

When I started Windows 8 I got a WHS alert that a new disk needs to be backed up.

In the WHS 2011 Dashboard I went to Customize Backup for the Computer then to Add or Remove Backup Items. There I saw the previous System Reserved partition showing offline and selected for backup. The current System Reserved partition was not selected for backup. I selected this partition for backup and I unselected the offline partition. My backups are running OK.

My question is: how do I remove the offline partition from this list? Obviously it no longer exists.

Note that every time I restore the same Shadow Protect image a new offline partition is added.

    Thanks.

You don't; the partition that that entry represents is part of the backup history for the PC in question. You can remove the entire PC (along with all backups) and add it again as a client if it's important to you.

I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)
