Office 2007 trial install rejects valid key

Question
-
One of the admins at my office installed the trial version of Office 2007 Professional on her computer. The machine will not accept the (presumably valid) license key she got when she downloaded the trial. I went through the trial download process too, got a second key, and found that the machine wouldn't accept it either.

Hello Paul Robichaux,
If the admin's computer had a Trial already on it preinstalled from the manufacturer, and the admin then downloaded and installed any of the retail products available from the Microsoft Office site, this could be the cause of the issue. This is described in the "cause of the problem" section of the following MS KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/836178
Regardless of the cause, in your place at this point I would be looking to bail out and start over. :-)
May I suggest uninstalling everything Office-related from the computer, restarting, then running the MS FixIt uninstaller in this MS KB article for good measure: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971179/
Once that's cleaned out, a fresh installation from the downloaded file should behave normally.

Hello Paul Robichaux,
According to the two sections of the report that would describe the installed Office, there is no Office installed.
Not sure what to make of that!

Right; as soon as I try to run setup, I am prompted for a product key. That's because I removed the previous installation, reinstalled, and did a detect+repair in previous attempts to get the silly thing working.
Since my post, I received yet another trial product key in e-mail from MS. It doesn't work either.Thursday, October 22, 2009 10:01 PM -
