SSD Drives RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible to move the WHS2011 OS on to a 60Gb solid state drive, to impove performance, or should I just preserve it for absolutely mission critical applications?

  • You won't see a significant improvement in any aspect of server performance. Keep the SSD for a better use.
I'm not on the WHS team, I just post a lot. :)

  • I think you're right Ken - it boots up pretty quickly now, and I'm using an entry level amd processor, 2Gb RAM and the boot drive is an old 200Gb IDE drive.

Although I doubt I'll ever be able to use it's full potential - the gigabit LAN being something of a bottleneck anyway.  I'll probably use it to better effect if I ever upgrade my other desktop PC to Win8 (or whatever the next release is).

    Thanks.
