Vista "already in use" - reinstallation problem

Question
-
After buying Windows Vista Ultimate from a store, i installed it on my laptop computer and activated it. The performance wasn't up to my standards so i uninstalled it and reinstalled Windows XP using the software bundled with my laptop.
I decided to install Vista Ultimate on my desktop PC which enabled Windows Aero and other features but when i now try to activate, i get the problem "The product key you typed is already in use.".
My copy of Vista Ultimate is now only installed on one PC and i am certain it is valid.
How can i activate this PC with Vista??

I see... In that case would you try phone activating? You can start the process by typing "slui 4" in a command prompt. Then choose your country and follow the instructions. You'll want to talk to a real person when you're given the option. Then you can explain your situation.
Thanks!

Please try clicking on the "Change product key" link in System Properties (right-click on Computer in the Start Menu and choose Properties) and entering your key through that method. Let me know if that works. Thank you!Thursday, March 8, 2007 11:53 PM

Nope - same again i'm afraid.
Note that my version of Windows Vista used to be activated with the hardware on my other PC.
