    Update manager failed to work recently and attempts to run microsoft Fixit result in message 'troubleshooting cannot continue because an error has occurred'. I can't find anything to resolve this problem, can anybody help please?

    I am having exact problem.  Everytime same error msg.  Am attempting to manage to turn on my Windows Defender which somehow was turned off in Oct, '12.  Will not give me screen to make any corrections or changes.  This is an essential program for security of computer.
