Can't install Office 2007 purchased on Amazon. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I purchased Office 2007 Ultimate from a reseller on Amazon. The package looks correct to me. The 2 disks look good. The hologram changes from Microsoft to Genuine. The reverse side of the disks say Puerto Rico, and the label (with the bar code) on the top of the package says, "Made in Puerto Rico for distribution in the US only." It also says Win32 English.

Every time I tried to install the first disk, after a very short time a box popped up that said, "Microsoft Office Ultimate 2007 encountered an error durning setup. Error 2203. An internal error has occurred. (C:\Windows\Installer\7243fc0.ipi   -2147287035         ) Contact Microsoft Support Services (PSS) for assistance. For information about how to contact PSS see C:\Users\Dale\AppData\Local\Temp\Setup0000189c\PSS10r.CHM."
When I went to that address, there was no PSS10r.CHM.

When I tried to get help online from Microsft, they required me to enter my product key. The key on my box didn't work. It is in the wrong format and doesn't have the correct number of digits. The product key on the box is
L9LLL-L9LLL-LLLL9-99LLL-LLLL9 with the L's representing letters and the 9's representing numbers.

I am running Vista Home Premium with a 64 bit operating system.

  • Hello VAW,

The error you encountered has been reported before, as an internet search will reveal.  Fro example:  http://groups.google.com/group/microsoft.public.office.setup/browse_thread/thread/83e94e1d2cc166e6/ac0df106dbb533ad?lnk=raot

I think you should follow the directions the error message provides, that is, contact Micrsoft Product Support Services, since you are entitled to free tech support for installation issues on Microsoft software purchased at retail.

I think the support web page was asking for your Product ID, which is not the Product Key.  The Product ID is in this format XXXXX-XXX-XXXXXXX-XXXXX (5-3-7-5).

  • I was able to resolve the issue. The product is installed and Microsoft says it is genuine and valid for my use. Thank you for your input.

  • Thanks for your reply. I was able to follow the searched link you provided. One of the responders (Kalairockz) provided information that allowed me to install my product after a number of false starts.

I was unable to get support from Microsoft because I couldn't access the Product ID until I installed the product. At last it's done and I can proceed with my work.
