Use a magnifying glass and a strong light to inspect the key. The invalid message means that you are not reading all characters correctly. Watch out for things like "B" and "8".

- You can reactivate your Windows 7 installation by performing the following:
1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in: slui.exe 3 and click on the icon that appears.
2. Type in your Windows 7 25-character product key that is affixed to your computer.
3. Follow the instructions for phone activation (no charge).

Typed in product Key from bottom of computer and got a message saying it was NOT valid.
Guess I will try phone activation.
What number do I call from Portland Oregon?
Tuesday, April 24, 2012 3:48 PM -
Activate by phone. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc736912(WS.10).aspx
Or Click Start and type "slui.exe 4". After you select the region you get the phone numbers.

Nope.
I get these three choices:
Buy Product Key now
Input new Product key now
Contact Asus for support- but there is no phone numbers given.

sounds like you didn't get your product key changed to the one on your COA.
Does the key you are using match the partial product key in your report?
Windows Product Key: *****-*****-2QWT6-HCQXJ-9YQTR
the COA key should be located on the bottom of your netbook or in the battery compartment.
edit :
What version and edition of windows is stated on your COA? do not state the product key.

No, the product key on the bottom of my computer does not match the one in the report. Is there a way for me to make these match, as I'm assuming they once did?
version is Windows 7 Home Prem OA.
Tuesday, April 24, 2012 6:17 PM -
Correct. It does not match the embedded key. It is not supposed to. The embedded key requires code in the BIOS because the embedded Key is not unique. When the embedded key finds the code in the BIOS it self-activates. Because the embedded key is not unique (all the computers like yours are using the same embedded key) the activation server will reject it if you try to enter it manually.
The key on the sticker is unique and is the one you have to use when manually activating. Please, just enter it.

I have entered it per Carey's three step instructions listed above and it said product key not invalid. Am I supposed to enter it somewhere else, and if so, please be specific on how to do that. Now, windows keeps freezing and I fear things are only going to get worse if I can't get this cleared up.

When I go to slui.exe and type in the product key it says it is invalid, but this is the product key on the bottom of my computer.Wednesday, April 25, 2012 9:01 PM

Thanks all.

Done it myself too many times to count! It's always the easiest one to mistake that doesn't immediately error out with an invalid character warning.
