Detecting Windows Update Installation In Progress (Pre- and Post-Reboot) RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • I've been working on scripts to prepare an up-to-date on Windows Update, sysprep'd base VM.

I've been using the PSWindowsUpdate module.

After updates are installed, there is a period of time when I issue a reboot where the OS is in a "Applying Updates.  Do not turn off your computer" state.  This is pre- and post- reboot.  On the post-reboot side, I can actually still get into Windows remotely with script, but not in UI because of that installation script.

So... before I can issue sysprep, I need to make sure the OS is at a "safe, stable" state and that all post-reboot update steps are complete.

Any thoughts (other than putting in an excessive Start-Sleep)?

  • For sysprep issues please post in the MDT forum.  They will show you how to build and update an image that will not conflict.

This is not a scripting issue.
