Interop Assemblies (WHS Team please read and comment) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I had a few instances reported of my PhotoSync application breaking the WOL Add-in.

Why you would ever want to uninstall PhotoSync, I have no clue :-)... but in any case it looks like the problem is traced back to the interop assemblies (In this case Interop.WHSInfoIF.dll).

When I install I add Interop.WHSInfoIF.dll (overwriting older versions) and then remove it on uninstall. I could (and have - now that I know the problem) check for this file and not install/uninstall if it is already there - though this will likely be an issue once future releases of WHS start shipping.

Is there any chance that WHS could add the versioned interop files as part of the install to insure the right version is there and so individual ISVs will not have to worry with this?

    Thanks,
    -Ed

  • I got the same problem, after add and remove one add-in, another add-in crash.

Since interop.WHSInfo.dll can be used by many add-in applications, i don't think it should be overwriting,  so interop.WHSInfo.dll shouldn't be added to the wxs file to create a MSI

  • As it stands right now, the interop has to be included in the 3rd party installer as it is not a part of the core WHS installation.
