  • Question

  • Two days ago I downloaded the onecare 90 day trial. I cannot complete installation because it is telling me that I need to connect to the internet to complete. I have spent 3 hours on telephone support and still have not resolved the problem.

    I have:

Run the fixs from microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/results.aspx?pocId=&freetext=onecare&DisplayLang=en#

Removed all third party software for DVD and security (inlcuding from registry)

Set internet explorer to the default browser

Followed all steps in this sticky http://forums.microsoft.com/WindowsOneCare/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1516793&SiteID=2

    Completed all steps here http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/910656

    Completed all steps here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934764

So I am frustrated, has anyone got any real ideas why I get this issue, it has something to do with the backup feature of Onecare.

I am runinng Vista Premium, on an Acer 1692 laptop. I am tempted to back up my files, format my hard drive and reinstall vista, however I only bought an upgrade disk. Can I do a full install from an upgrade disk?

  • Hi, Les. I'm sorry to read of your problems.

I hope that you have continued to work with support to try to resolve the issue.

If the issue persists, try removing the Acer software suite that is typically preinstalled and active, I believe it is called the eRecovery software. I don't think your problem is due to the backup functions in OneCare, but rather something interfering with the network connection and the Acer software has been known to do this.

You can do a full install of Vista from an upgrade disk - http://windowssecrets.com/comp/070201
