Sunset with Fidelity Investments

Question
-
The Sunset version will take of activation issues and allow continued use of Money past 2011. Except for Fidelity Investments, all of my other financial institutions have web download capability. I have talked to Fidelity several times, but do not think they will every provide a OFX web page download capability (they only have cvs now). If I want to continue to have transaction downloads, it appears I will need another solution (1. Switch money management software; 2. Install the Python scripts; or 3. change brokers).
If you use Fidelity Investments with Money, what is your solution to the loss of online download capability from within Money after 01/2011?
Thanks
Mike

I have been a Fidelity customer for many years and a Money user since 1995. I have manually entered all my Fidelity transactions into Money. I have been able to do this because I am not a day trader or even a week trader. I am helped by the fact that I know accounting and understand how the Money program works. I guess many people like the fact that these so called "automatic downloads" do all the work for you but the fact is if you don't fully understand the mechanics you probably would do better just going to the Fidelity website and looking at your accounts online there. Good luck. SteveSunday, July 4, 2010 3:21 PM

I think those probably represent the range of your choices. If you have to have transaction downloads. (Not sure what .py scripts you refer to nor what they will do for you. The one I've seen written about here deals with getting market quotes. That's a different problem.)I have literally thousands of Money transactions that involve Fidelity dating back to 2/6/1995. They were all entered manually. But I understand why many users think I'm crazy for this.

Dick,
Python scripts have also been written to download statements and transactions for brokerages, banks, etc and these are also covered in my Blogsite "Microsoft Money Offline" (they aren't just for market quotes). MikeV99's Fidelity transaction download situation is the same as mine regarding Schwab in that there is no means provided on the website to invoke downloading of your transactions, but I have indeed found a workaround with Python scripts. See http://microsoftmoneyoffline.wordpress.com/2010/02/08/charles-schwab-brokerage-ofx-downloads/
MikeV99,
I entered a new Blog entry that will hopefully help you obtain Fidelity data :) http://microsoftmoneyoffline.wordpress.com/2010/07/04/fidelity-brokerage-ofx-downloads/
Let me know if it works...

Thank you for the Fidelity settings. I have tested the Java script (hleOfxQuotes) to obtain quoted, but have not yet tested it with Money. I think I will install the Sunset version on my laptop and begin testing the PocketSense scripts and Java scripts on it. Of the three options, PocketSense appears to offer the easiest solution.

I am very interested in your findings. We will eagerly look forward to your tests with Money. Thanks.Wednesday, July 7, 2010 7:47 PMModerator -
I can confirm that the scripts work perfectly with both the Sunset version of Money Plus as well as the purchased version, unless it was the Fidelity findings specifically that you were interested in. As I don't have accounts at Fidelity, we'll await MikeV99's results for that...

Thank you very much for that. Do you get source for all of the code? My concern would be to inspect to see that the data was only going to the involved FI.Friday, July 9, 2010 1:38 PMModerator -
Regarding the Python scripts (both TFB's & PocketSense), yes, you have all of the source code so that you can confirm that the data communications with OFX servers using these scripts are always via the same secure, encrypted (HTTPS) connections that Money used during online updates.
(Although HLE's Java app may not be so easy to verify, it isn't used for brokerage OFX downloads, only obtaining quotes from Yahoo Finance.)

I'll be posting some comments on the blog about my tests with Fidelity. Hopefully, you can point me in the right direction.
Edit:
I think I have everything running now using ameridan's PocketSense scripts. I will have to wait until after market close tomorrow to see how things update. I plan to run in parallel for a while to see what happens.
Interesting point. I tried to create a Watch Account in Sunset and it tells me it cannot create an online account until Money is activated. I had to create a regular investment account. I guess if one is going to use that feature one should create the dummy account before end of activation? I think I will start a new thread for this issue.

FYI, my online database is tracking perfectly with my non-online database using the Pocketsense scripts. I did have to add a script to change the zero trade (which is midnight GMT) to 120000 (noon GMT). I am importing all accounts using the non-online database including those from Fidelity. I am updating my watch account indices as well.
The only difference I have seen is the non-online database tries to match investment transactions with existing transactions (typically last month's). I have looked at the settings of the online and non-online database and do not see any differences. Anyone know of a setting that would control this feature?
I am ready to go off line and still use Money!
